About Amber Dale’s Pumpkin Patch
Our Family
We’re the McDonalds:
Kevin and Kellie, our sons Brady and Gavin, our dogs Drake and Coco, and our leopard gecko, Shiny.
Kellie has called Wilmington home her entire life. Kevin is originally from Philadelphia and moved to Wilmington with his family after his father retired from the Marine Corps more than 30 years ago. We’ve been married since 1998, and in 2025, Kevin retired as a firefighter after 33 years of service.
We’re a first responder family, and serving others has always been an important part of who we are. We’re also incredibly blessed to have both sides of our family here in Wilmington. The McDonald and Miller families have come together to help create Amber Dale’s, and you’ll find little pieces of both families woven throughout the lot. Our faith is an important part of who we are, and we try to carry it with us in the way we
live, work and serve others.
~ Kevin is the heart of the hard work behind Amber Dale's, from building and hauling to coming up with the ideas and being there from sunup to sundown to make it all happen. Kevin's happy place is on his tractor.
~ Kellie has always had a love for animals. If you bring your dog to Amber Dale’s, there’s a pretty good chance she’ll be the first person to ask if she can pet them. In fact, you may even hear someone yell,
“Kellie, there’s a dog here!”
from somewhere across the lot.
~ Brady is our old soul. He loves history, archaeology, the mountains and vinyl records.
~ Gavin loves music, sneakers and making people laugh. He’s our resident sneakerhead, and he is such a hard worker.
One of the greatest gifts Amber Dale’s has given us is the chance to build something together as a family. Through the long days, late nights, laughter and even the hard days, we’ve made memories we’ll always treasure. Having each other along the way is truly priceless to us.
Our Story
Why did we name our Pumpkin Patch, Amber Dale’s Pumpkin Patch?
Our names are Kevin and Kellie,
and our sons are Brady and Gavin.
We get this question often.
In October of 2010, the lives of our family were shattered when we learned of the loss of one of God’s true lights, my sister, Amber Dale Conatser. She was killed by an impaired driver and her husband suffered a traumatic brain injury. I was in a pumpkin patch at the moment she passed, and our loss was so deep in the years since, my grief would revisit me fresh each fall and October became a month to dread instead of enjoy. A pumpkin patch is the last place I’d want to be.
But God had a plan, and slowly over the years, the healing that Amber would want for me began to take shape. My husband and I would never think in our wildest dreams that God would use
another pumpkin patch to assist in the
healing of our family, but here we are.
We truly feel that it’s only right that we named this endeavor after my dear sister, and also my father, Dale Miller, who is the patriarch of our family. So, with true Thanksgiving, we opened Amber Dale’s Pumpkin Patch, for you to enjoy and make wonderful memories with your family as you
decorate your home and yard this fall.
We’re so thankful for every person who has crossed our bridge, made a memory here, and helped make Amber Dale’s what it is today.
